The journey is amazing. When the Man and I accepted this amazing calling to international missions, we began a journey that would take us places that we never excepted. We had no idea the destination….but decided to just be obedient. Now….as I type that phrase, “decided to just be obedient,” I smile through tears.
Many times my obedience took the form of a kicking, screaming, temper-tantrum toddler! Why do we have to live on one income? Why do we have to leave our home in our sweet little town and move to a strange city with stranger customs? Why do You want me to learn how to homeschool? Why won’t You just give me the answer to what happens after seminary? Why, Lord, why?
Because He knows best…and His timing is always perfect! Yes, that’s the answer. That is the Sunday school, grown up with Jesus answer. But not the answer I wanted….
Below…this picture…so perfectly spoke truth into my life. Praising Him in hallway…day after day. Knowing that graduation was right around the corner. Even though the Man felt like it would never get here.
Yet it was always the right answer. And we know…we know that the Lord was working and He did have the answer!
His answer came…just in the right moment. We are going to serve in Cape Town, South Africa. Meeting the needs of people living in extreme, often life threatening, conditions.
Please pray with us! Praise Him for all that He has done, is doing, and will do!! We pray that you will partner with us in this journey.
I am thankful to have the opportunity to be a nurse.
I am thankful that a job as a nurse helps me provide for my family. I never intended to be a nurse. I did not grow up wanting to be a nurse. It just sort of happened. I have seen the best of people and the worst.
My greatest joy as a nurse was doing medical missions in Africa. I loved the people. I loved working in the bush of Africa where many had received very little medical care and had never heard the name of Jesus. I loved helping them physically and spiritually.
The elders of the village with their eyes frosted over with cataracts….brings relief to their eyes and seeing their eyes open to the good new of Jesus Christ.
Jesus was going throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness among the people. Matthew 4:23
The mothers caring for their babies in hospitals with bamboo IV poles…seeing her relief when others gathered around and prayed. She did not know the true God, but she glimpsed His face that day. A seed was planted.
The sun was setting, all those who had any who were sick with various diseases brought them to Him; and laying His hands on each one of them, He was healing them. Luke 4:40
Caring for the widows and the orphans….the untouchables of a society…showing them the love of Jesus
And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing. Luke 9:2
We arrived in the country on the national voodoo holiday. We saw the sacrifical altars for their voodoo rituals. They brought their family to our clinics with their fetishes. And we loved them.
So thankful to be a nurse.
Missions! I am thankful for beautiful feet. Feet that share the gospel. Missions! I was only there for 10 days about 6 years ago. But Africa still stirs my soul. I started reading Compassion’s bloggers in Ecuador and feel the stirring in my heart again. Revived. Desiring to return. Desiring to make a difference.
HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!” Romans 10:15
Missions has provided some amazing experiences for us and has helped recognize God’s calling. I am thankful for those opportunities and pray for many, many more in the future.
Benin, West Africa – Our mission team provided medical clinics throughout the country. These faces bring back so many touching memories. They also represent a great need for people to GO!!!
They are so hungry….for food…for medicine….for love….for Jesus!!
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19
