I love summertime!

  • In my life this week…

I love summertime. The slower pace. Visiting with friends. Going on grand adventures. I can understand the rationale behind year around school. However, I love the laid back, free to be spontaneous summertime. So – summertime – here we are!! Ready to enjoy every adventure you throw our way!!

  • In our homeschool this week…

We have not been completely lazy this week. Big Sis and Middle Sis are (slowly) working on the last modules in science.  I am continuing to step back and let them develop some time management skills. It does make me a little crazy to think that we could be doing science all summer long. But I am going to let them figure this out  🙂

We checked a few items off of our 2012 Summer Bucket List. And we have added a few more items. It is a work in progress.

Blueberry pickin” at Blue Harvest farms was a success. It was the first item checked off our bucket list and a great nature study. Click here to read all the details and the great new recipe that we found – blueberry cobbler with just 3 ingredients. YUMMY!!!!

We were headed out to the most southern point of Louisiana (yes, you can drive two hours south of New Orleans) for a little adventure in the wetlands when a friend called on Tuesday evening to invite us to a “First 100” event at a new Chick-fil-a. A quick phone call and our plans changed. More to come on that exciting experience!!  🙂

We are working on some other plans for the summer – VBS, fishing tournament, visit from Memaw and Pop for the SBC convention, GA/Acteen camp,  youth camp, family vaca, possible trip to port ministry convention, and poss cruise. Plus working through our summer bucket list. Always learning! So even though we don”t officially “do school” during the summer we are always looking for fun experiences that allow the girls (and us, too) to learn something. Some of the best learning experiences do not come from books!!! 🙂

  • My favorite thing/resources this week was…

Blue Harvest Farms! If you can find a “pick your own” vegetables or fruit farm near you. GO!! Take your kids. My children do spend time outside of the city but most of their life experiences have been inside the city limits. I want them to have the experiences of picking their own veggies. Seeing the bushes or plants from out of the ground. Tasting the berries right off of the bush. While I love the city and all it has to offer, I also love the country life and getting familiar with the earth and all the amazing things the Lord has created in nature.

  • I’m cooking…

Anything with blueberries 🙂  Anyone have any great blueberry recipes they would like to share???

  • I”m grateful for….

All the men and women who have served or are serving in our armed forces. We had a great Memorial Day with friends and recognize that is only possible because of the sacrifice of those who have served our nation.

  • I’m praying for…

God to reveal His plans for us. We could possibly be at a crossroads soon and need clear direction. I am also praying that the Lord will use 30 Days of Prayer for Our Nation in a great way.

sounds like a neat trip 🙂

We love blueberries! Ours aren’t in season yet because we live a lot farther north than you, but I can’t wait to go blueberry picking! We usually pick strawberries, then blueberries, then raspberries throughout the summer months…berry picking, and then cooking with and eating them, are favorite activities for us 🙂
    Thanks for linking up.

  3. Fruit picking is a family tradition around here! We go to the farm in June to pick strawberries, blueberries are in August on a friend’s property, and apples in in September at an orchard. I’m considering raspberries this year too! It’s fun to pick and bake with them, huh?

you nailed it “Some of the best learning experiences do not come from books” (I’m banking on this one)

We also live in the city and I enjoy bringing my kids out to the country to go berry picking. I don’t know many blueberry recipes, but Iove blueberry muffins!
