Wow! It has been an exciting two days. Day 1 was a travel day – a long travel day that was made longer by a 2 hour delay in Miami. Up at 3:00am and to the airport; from New Orleans to Miami to Quito.
Day 2 was an acclimation day! So thankful for a day to adjust to the altitude. We are at approximately 9,500 feet above sea level – yet in a valley 🙂 Some have had a slight headache and mild nausea this morning. By the afternoon, everyone was almost back to normal.
Quito is an amazing city! Built in a valley between the peaks of the Andes mountains. Home to over 3 million people.
Our team got to visit the day care center at the Zambiza dump. These are the children of the dump miners – a job considered the lowest of the low in this culture.
We also spent some time just learning our team members and our hosts from Extreme Response. There are 73 of us here to serve the Lord. We are from California, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Texas, Colorado, New Orleans, England, and Canada. Together we packed almost 6000 gift bags for the children that we will meet over the next week.
Time for bed; early day tomorrow.
